If you’re a law graduate, you have two pathways to meet the requirements for admission as a lawyer in Victoria: Practical Legal Training (PLT) or Supervised Legal Training (SLT). While PLT is the most common choice, SLT offers an alternative for law graduates.
Supervised Legal Training is a workplace-based pathway to becoming a lawyer. Instead of completing a Practical Legal Training program, you’ll spend 12 months working full-time in an approved legal practice, gaining hands-on experience under the guidance of a qualified lawyer.
Your supervising lawyer will help you develop essential legal skills and ensure your work meets the competency standards for entry-level lawyers required by the Victorian Legal Admissions Board (VLAB).
SLT could be a great choice for you if you’re looking for:

Under Victorian Legal Admissions Board (VLAB) requirements, the following subjects must be complete through an approved provider:
In addition to the mandatory subjects, the Part Program also offers electives that can broaden your skills, such as:
The Practical Legal Training Part Program is designed to be flexible and convenient, allowing you to start whenever you're ready. Each subject takes at least four weeks to complete, and you have the option to study multiple subjects at the same time, making it easy to tailor your learning pace to your schedule. All coursework is delivered online, so you can complete your studies from anywhere without the need to attend in person.
While most subjects offer flexible study options, the Lawyer’s Skills subject includes scheduled components that require participation to ensure you meet key learning outcomes.
