OVERVIEW

Would you know how to assist a co-worker who was experiencing a mental health problem?

In Australia, 1 in 5 people will experience mental illness in any given year. Lawyers suffer from higher rates of depression, anxiety, substance use problems and stress than the general population.

In this Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course, you will learn techniques to:

  • Understand how mental health problems, like depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance use problems, and eating disorders, are developed
  • Detect and differentiate mental health crises, such as suicidal thoughts and behaviours, non-suicidal self-injury, traumatic events, and panic attacks, among others
  • Understand risk factors and appropriate evidence-based treatments and supports
  • Learn how to respond and offer appropriate support to employees and co-workers using the MHFA Action Plan ALGEE

The key to better mental health outcomes is early recognition of issues and a safe and supportive workplace.

This is Mental Health First Aid Australia approved course. The eLearning component is completed with Mental Health First Aid Australia.

The eLearning component of this course is supported by legalsuper.

Throughout the year there are opportunities to attend one of our Refresher Training courses, ideal for those looking to extend their accrediation.

"The Mental Health First Aid Course for Legal Professionals gives you a very practical and evidence-based framework for approaching situations where a colleague or friend may be facing a mental health crisis. The e-learning component is well-structured and engaging. The live workshop is thought-provoking and helpful for practising the skills you need to deal with scenarios that you might face at work.
