Rachel Matulis, Legal Policy Unit, Magistrates Court of Victoria

Rachel is a senior legal advisor who specialises in complex statutory interpretation, information disclosure and privacy, governance and legislative drafting. Rachel is shortly transitioning to the Victorian Bar and is currently a senior lawyer at the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria, where she provides in-house legal and strategic advice to the judicial and corporate areas of the Court. Prior to this, Rachel was an Associate to the Hon. Justice Quigley at the Supreme Court of Victoria. Rachel is also a Co-Chair of the Women in the Public Sector Committee at Victorian Women Lawyers, and is passionate about amplifying the diverse opportunities that exist in pursuing a career in the government sector.
     

Natalie Plumstead, Natalie Plumstead Legal Consulting

 
Natalie is principal lawyer and founder of Natalie Plumstead Legal Consulting. A firm dedicated to legislative drafting and mental health law advice. She is also co-chair for the Women in the Public Sector Committee at Victorian Women Lawyers. Natalie is a later lawyer with extensive experience in public law. Natalie is a former Senior Parliamentary Counsel and has been involved in the development of significant law reform in both Victoria and Scotland. She is undertaking a PhD (Law) in mental health law at RMIT University. Natalie is a regular mentor to lawyers and values the unique perspective that recent graduates bring to the profession. 
 
Natalie is also a registered architect and enjoys engaging in conversation on new ideas. While not promoting and advocating for women lawyers in the public sector, she loves exploring the diverse and eclectic built environment of Melbourne. Outside of the law, family, fishing and hound walking are other much loved pursuits.
     

Natasha Sugarman, Victorian State Government

Natasha joined the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action graduate program in January 2024 and is currently working as a Graduate Policy Advisor with the Victorian Department of Health.  She completed a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bachelor of Science, Developmental Biology and Embryology at Monash University in 2023.  She worked as a Legal Assistant in a criminal defence firm and Paralegal with SE Monash Legal Service.  She was also involved in Mentor Leadership roles with Monash University providing ongoing support to a number of Access Monash Mentors for secondary school students.
