Terri Mottershead finalist as the ‘AI Female Leader of the Year’

We would like to congratulate Terri Mottershead, Executive Director for the Centre for Legal Innovation (CLI) at The College of Law Australia, who has been selected as a finalist in the Australian AI Awards 2024 in the "AI Female Leader of the Year - Enterprise" category by Momentum Media.

Terri’s finalist selection is testament to the important work she is undertaking in the Australian and global legaltech fields, especially in the area of Generative AI which is transforming the way law is practised. Terri’s passion for learning and information sharing information has been further ignited by the profound possibilities Generative AI presents the legal and education sectors.

I’m in awe of the tech and how it is transforming the legal ecosystem but also very aware of the limitations and challenges. It’s going to take time to shift our collective mindset and inherited legacy of watch, wait and react - to engage, collaborate, and predict. We’re going to need more resources, education, experimentation, connection, and thinking out of the box,” Terri says.

That’s where the Centre for Legal Innovation can continue to provide leadership through its focus on people, community, experience sharing and practical action steps and, I can’t wait!”

Along with supporting and informing the College of Law’s AI Academic Policy and future teaching and learning approach, Terri is a powerful connector and facilitator amongst a worldwide network of legal and allied professionals. The CLI’s AI initiatives have included national roundtables, global summits, webinars, podcasts, connecting with international tech delegations, as well as a host of other legal AI-specific programmes.

An integral part of the CLI’s success as an advisor to the legal industry on all legaltech matters, is the exceptional group of thought leaders who form the CLI Advisory Board.

CLI has the great privilege to work with individuals, groups and organisations that share our vision for informing, connection and provoking change in the legal industry. They are exceptional in their generous donation of time, advice, support and commitment to paying it forward,” Terri says.

The calibre of contributors within the CLI community is reflected in the inaugural Australian AI Awards 2024 finalist selections.

It is always amazing to see our board members recognised including Co-Chair Caryn Sandler who a finalist in the inaugural Australian AI Awards 2024, and member firms in the group categories, Gilbert + Tobin and Lander & Rogers. Likewise, it is wonderful to see the work of Dr. Mitchell Adams, our Distinguished Fellow and host of our Legal GenAI Clinic, recognised as a finalist in the AI Academic/Researcher of the Year category.”

Terri is a highly respected member of the legal profession and her work in legal Generative AI was further recognised with her appointment as the inaugural Chair of the Queensland Law Society's Generative AI in Legal Practice Joint Working Group. Terri is also a regular guest speaker on the Australian and international legaltech circuits.

In March this year Terri was one of five women recognised in the prestigious International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) '2024 Influential Women in Legal Tech List'. Please join us in congratulating Terri Mottershead and the CLI Advisory Board members on these well-deserved accolades.
